So here are the basics:
Q: What is a front-loading washing machine?
A: Simply put, a washer you load by opening the front of the machine.
Q: Why do many Americans continue using top-loaders if front-loaders work better?
A: Tradition, feelings, misperception, and ingrained habits all play a major role. Even compared to the newest top-loading washers, front-loaders are more effective at removing stubborn stains while using less water, detergent, and energy.
*Note: Though front-loaders have gotten a bad rep in North America, the design has advanced a great deal since first introduced, and are now much easier to maintain.
How It Works
In a front-loading machine, paddles extending a short distance from the drum sides toward the center and while the drum is turning, these paddles assist in uniformly moving water and detergent through the fabric, mechanically and chemically loosening dirt and grime.
Detergent Matters
To optimize the systemic advantages of front-load washers, we need to use high-efficiency, low-suds laundry detergent. When shopping, these are identified with a HE on the label and require less per load because they are several times more concentrated than top-loader detergents.
Better Cleaning: Front-load washers have been proven to generally clean more effectively, removing stains more successfully.
More Efficient: When operated properly, front-load washers conserve water, energy, and detergent, compared to top-load machines. These typically require less water, less energy, and less detergent to clean than top-loading machines.
Gentle on Clothes: Rather than using an agitator as top loaders do, front loaders rotate and tumble clothing more uniformly and effectively, so clothing will last longer due to less wear during the cleaning process. This also means front-load washers are better suited for delicates clothes.
Drum Access: Even though you must stoop to reach the drum, it is simpler for those requiring disability and wheelchair access to operate machines.
Wash Progress: Some people prefer that you can actually see the cycle’s progression through the agitator drum door.
Spin Speed: Front-loading washing machines typically spin about 33 percent faster during the final spin cycle than the average top-loading washer, meaning more water is removed. Clothes will be comparatively more dry before transfer to the dryer, meaning shorter drying times and less energy wasted.
Digital Payment: Our washers and dryers all feature the easy to use PayRange electronic payment system via smartphone app. Instead of waiting in the laundry room, the app will even notify you just before your load of laundry is done, so you can return to the safety and comfort of your apartment.
About using PayRange: Wireless connection, payment and control with your smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth.
No more jammed coin box or fumbling for change, the system is closed and encrypted for your safety.
If you’ve accessed this website on a computer, switch to your phone, then use the following links, or just search the Apple Store or Android Store for the PayRange app.
Install the app, create an account, add a payment source, then with the app open — hold the phone in range of the machine you want to use, swipe to send payment and start your load.
